James Raymond “Pete” Peterson

    Four Oaks – James Raymond “Pete” Peterson, age 77, died Sunday evening, October 7, 2018 in UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Born on October 6, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan he was the son of the late Floyd Raymond and Gladys Fogle Peterson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Strickland Peterson. Pete joined the United States Marine Corps in 1958, serving as a MP for four years. After serving, he joined the Smithfield Police Department. During his tenure in Smithfield, he attended the FBI Academy and graduated in 1983. He continued his career with the Smithfield Police Department for twelve additional years, retiring in April 1995 as Chief of Police.
    Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
    Surviving are his daughters, Loy Crocker and husband Jeff of Four Oaks and Janet Peterson Daughtry of Smithfield; sister, Donna Lohry of Oshkosh, WI; grandchildren, Sarah Patrick, Andrew Daughtry, and Allison Daughtry; great grandchildren, Finn and Fox Patrick; special friend, Kay Warren of Benson; and many nieces and nephews.
