Ray Johnson

    Birth Date: 06/04/1949
    Deceased Date: 09/15/2024

Ray Johnson, age 75, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 15th, at the SECU Hospice House, after a short-lived battle with a brain disease. Ray was born on June 4, 1949 to Roscoe and Mary Johnson. He was a 1967 graduate of North Johnston High School.

Ray was a caring son, brother, father, grandfather, friend, and a mentor to many. His favorite hobby was to restore, paint, and work on cars. He could fix anything and shared his talents with others. He could be found at the truck stop in Kenly or Stormin’ Norman’s fellowshipping with his many acquaintances. He loved a good car show, a 69 corvette, and exploring junk yards with friends. Ray’s father said that he had the “patience of a rabbit box” and his response to any tricky situation was “we will make it work.”

He shared much love with his family and friends and will be remembered with wonderful memories, smiles and laughs. He always had a kind heart and words of encouragement to offer.

Ray leaves to cherish his memories; two daughters Sonya Grice of Selma, Cami (Cliff) Parrish of Middlesex; one brother Roy (Hilda) Johnson; two special grandsons Maverick Grice and Clifton Parrish and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Gail Johnson, brother Ollie Johnson, and his sister LaVerne Johnson McLamb.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at Parrish Memorial Funeral Home in Selma, 1351 South Pollock Street, from 6:00-8:00pm, on Friday, September 20th, 2024.

The graveside service will be held at the Raper Family Cemetary, 11413 NC-42 East, Middlesex on Saturday at 11:00am.

Flowers may be sent to Parrish Funeral Home.
