Richard Erle Lewis, 82, of Princeton, NC, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 at his home. He was born June 9, 1936 in Oakland County, Michigan and was the son of the late Linton Jay and Janice Yvonne Pickel Lewis. He was married to Nan Carol Schermerhorn Lewis. He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred and Joseph Lewis.
Mr. Lewis served his country in the United States Air Force where he proudly retired. He participated in the Korean War, Cuban Conflict and also served in Desert Storm. He was a member of the 732nd Ram Squadron at Fort McGuire in New Jersey.
Mr. Lewis worked with Senior Living Apartments in Connecticut and Maryland. He continued work at Holy Family Monastery in maintenance before his retirement.
Along with his military and civilian career, Mr. Lewis was an avid Ham Operator. His call sign was NIVGY. He also was a Skywarn spotter for WRAL.
The Memorial Service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations Chapel. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 12 noon until 1:00 pm.
He is survived by his wife; Nan Carol Lewis; sons, Rick Lewis, Darrel J. Lewis, and Ryan Lewis: daughters, Bernadette Farrier, and Cathy Cook ; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; Stepsons, Michael Pecilunas and Robert Pecilunas; stepdaughter, Heather Pecilunas; 6 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren.
