Hannah Jenkins Youngblood

    Smithfield – Hannah Jenkins Youngblood, age 56, died Monday, March 06, 2017 in the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born November 18, 1960 in Asheboro, NC she was a daughter of the late Knox Vaughn Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mable Williford Darden. Hannah was a member of First Baptist Church of Smithfield and devoted much of her time serving the surrounding community.

    She was raised in Smithfield, NC where she attended school before graduating from Appalachian State University with a bachelor degree in Education. She later obtained two master’s degrees from Campbell University and East Carolina University in Education and Administration. Hannah devoted her professional career to education, commencing as a middle school math teacher and continuing on into an administrative role within the Johnston County School System.

    She made a difference in the lives of generations of children.

    Her greatest love was of family and friends. She was a devoted mother who loved her children unconditionally. Her home was always open to any visitors, as she loved to cook and entertain. She made everyone feel welcome.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in First Baptist Church of Smithfield with Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery Ext. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the home of Anna and Hinton Armstrong, 207 North Second Street, Smithfield, NC 27577.

    Surviving are her son, Ben Youngblood, III; daughters, Anna Y. Armstrong and husband Hinton and Katie Y. Stephenson and husband Will, all of Smithfield; mother, Martha Williford Zollicoffer and husband John of Henderson; stepmother, Violet Weaver Jenkins of Four Oaks; brother, Darden Jenkins of Fayetteville; sisters, Page J. Partin of Selma and Alice J. Gipe and husband Jason Gipe; nephew, Knox Gipe; and niece, Anna Kate Gipe.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham NC 27710 in memory of Hannah.

    It is written, “Hannah Youngblood has led with the heart, shared with the heart, and leaves with her legacy and life fulfilled.”
