Martha Riley Barbour, 80 years old, of Smithfield, NC, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at home.
She was born in 1940 in Wake County. She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Pauline Riley; her loving grandson, Joseph Murphy; brother, Joe Riley; and sister, Mary Frances Riley Wester.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Barbour; daughters, Tammy Barbour, and Martha Ann Underwood and her better half Terry. She has one living brother, Jimmy Riley and his wife Gail. She has cousins, nephews, and nieces. Also her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jillian and daughter Ireland Murphy, Lauren Edwards Jackson, husband Bruce and their two daughters, Brianna and Kyndall Rose.
A graveside service officiated by Revered Donnie Barbour also singing “Amazing Grace” and “I’ll Fly Away” will be at Casey’s Cemetery at Clayton, NC at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2020.
She was a loving mom and wife, special grandma and great grandma to which she was called Granny. She loved us all very much. She loved everyone and always wanted to help others.
She and Jerry met at a dance and knew immediately they would spend the rest of their life together. They have spent 61 wonderful and loving years together and always holding hands up to the end. She loved Elvis Presley’s music all her life. As long as they were able, they spent many previous moments dancing the night away. What a beautiful sight to see of two people very much in love. She was blessed to leave this world peacefully and will be missed by all forever.
