GARNER – Starting Sunday, contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to begin a series of overnight closures along a section of Interstate 40 for bridgework.
Each night Dec. 15-19, crews will close two lanes of I-40 West near U.S. 70 (Exit 309) at 9 p.m. followed by a full closure about 10 p.m. that is set to last until 5 the following mornings.
During the full closures, I-40 West traffic will be detoured to take U.S. 70 East (Exit 309) to N.C. 42 East (Exit 320) and back onto U.S. 70 West to return to I-40 West or access the Triangle Expressway.
The work and associated closures are weather dependent and subject to change.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted signs, and use caution when traveling through the area.
