Two Johnston County men have been arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on felony charges for allegedly stealing construction materials. Kevin Mark Hackney Jr., 26, of Lazy Branch Drive, Benson and Robert John Perniciaro, 26, of Mt. Pleasant Road, Willow Spring are charged with stealing $10,000 in lumber and building materials from a new home construction site on E. Wellesley Drive, Clayton. The theft was reported on Dec. 23, 2020.
Hackney is also charged with stealing $2,839.43 in building materials in December from another new home construction site on Combine Trail near Benson. Hackney was first arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on January 4th, 2021 for stealing construction equipment buckets from a worksite on Crape Myrtle Drive, Benson.
Investigators said the suspects were selling the stolen property on Facebook Marketplace to unsuspecting buyers. Some of the stolen property was recovered January 4th during a search warrant at Perniciaro’s home.
Hackney is being held on a $120,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail. Pernicario was incarcerated on a $250,000 bond.
