The parent of a student at Neuse Charter School was arrested on campus following an incident in the carpool lane.

Students were being dismissed from classes last Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 7th and parents were waiting in the carpool lane to pick up their children.  Smithfield Police said several Neuse Charter employees who were near the carpool lane reported smelling marijuana coming from a vehicle and notified a school resource officer.

The officer approached the vehicle and stopped the driver before he could leave the campus with his child.  Police said they located 13 grams of suspected marijuana, rolling papers, a concealed 9mm handgun, 48 rounds of ammunition, and a holster inside the parent’s car.
