Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Train In Selma

SELMA – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a CSX train this morning (Wednesday) near the Smithfield-Selma city limits.  The collision was reported just before 1:00am near the Highway 70 Flyover Bridge and just inside the Town of Selma.

The victim was identified as 41 year-old Jonathan Snyder. He was listed as homeless and from the Selma area.  There is a homeless settlement nearby but it’s unknown if Snyder had been staying there.

Snyder was lying next to the track when he was struck by the southbound train.  He was killed instantly.  The collision was ruled accidental.

Johnston County EMS, Selma Police, Selma Fire Department, Smithfield Fire Department, Smithfield Police Department and the Johnston County Medical Examiner responded to the scene.

  1. He was a great friend and a loving and very humble country guy , he may of been homeless but he would give you his last if you needed it ..we love you John sing loud and proud in heaven
