Police: Driver Bites Officer During DWI Stop

A Smithfield police officer was bitten during a DWI traffic stop Saturday night.

Around 11:15pm the officer stopped a car on South Brightleaf Boulevard near Holt Street.  The officer suspected the driver was impaired and while attempting to take 24 year-old Alexandra Marie Rosa Flores into custody she allegedly bit the officer on his hand.

Flores, who has an Oriole Court, Selma address, was charged with resisting arrest, assault on a government official and driving while impaired.

The 2002 Subaru she was reportedly driving was impounded.

Captain R. Sheppard said the bite did not break the officer’s skin and he did not seek medical attention.

Flores was given a $17,500 bond on the charges and an April 23rd court date.
