SELMA – Selma Police arrested a drunk driving suspect who was traveling 100 miles per hour. An officer was on patrol at 12:19am Saturday, July 4th when he spotted a car speeding westbound on Highway 70 near W. Oak Street. The officer, using his radar, clocked the 2008 Chevy Impala traveling 100 mph in a 60 mph zone.
Police caught up to the speeding car and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Javaris Lashon Williams, 23, of Annette Drive, Princeton, reportedly told police he didn’t know why he was speeding. “I don’t know sir. It’s this Impala and it gets away sometime,” Williams reportedly answered.
Williams allegedly admitted to drinking before driving. He registered 0.10 on the Breathalyzer at the Selma police station.
He was charged with driving while impaired and speeding and given a $5,000 secured bond. Police said Williams was already out of jail on a $2,500 secured bond for a previous DWI charge.
