Police: DWI Suspect Arrested In Liquor Store Parking Lot Said He Hadn’t Drank All Day

A concerned motorist contacted police Aug. 9th reporting a possible impaired driving operating a silver pickup without a license plate on Buffalo Road near River Road in Selma.  Responding officers found the vehicle a few minutes later as it turned into the parking lot of the Selma ABC Store at 103 S. Pollock Street and stopped in a parking space.

The driver reportedly had an overwhelming odor of alcohol and had to keep his hand on his pickup for balance.  The driver, Stephen Daniel Jones of 6445 Buffalo Road, Selma, allegedly told police he hadn’t drank all day and that an open bottle of Burnett’s vodka in the center console wasn’t his.

Jones was arrested for driving while impaired and driving on a revoked license.   Selma Police said the 66 year-old man registered 0.25 on the Breathalyzer, more than triple the legal limit of 0.08.

Jones was transported to the Johnston County Jail and held under a $2,500 bond.  The truck was towed from the ABC Store parking lot.
