Smithfield Police say a motorist they arrested for impaired driving had his two small children in the vehicle at the time he was pulled over. At 9:12pm Monday, an officer stopped a 1994 Toyota for a tail light violation in the 800 block of Brogden Road.
Police allege the driver, Al Malik Muhammad Mace, 39, of Furlong Drive, Smithfield was impaired. His two children, ages 2 and 5, were in the vehicle. They were turned over to a family member.
Mace registered 0.13 on the Breathalyzer, above the legal limit of 0.08, police said. He was charged with DWI and two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. He was given a $25,000 bond pending an April 22nd court date.
