Smithfield police officers arrested a 30 year-old man on felony charges after reportedly finding weapons, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession. Around 11:50pm on Wednesday, April 21st, an officer was on patrol in the 800 block of E. Market Street and noticed the trunk open to an unoccupied car parked in front of a home.
Because of several recent car break-ins in the area, the officer stopped to make sure the vehicle had not been broken into. After answering a knock on the door, police said they encountered Travis Montice Singleton of E. Market Street. Officers said there was an overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from inside the home.
Police said Singleton, a previously convicted felon, reportedly had a rifle and handgun, 106 grams of marijuana, small plastic bags, shipping packages and digital scales in his possession.
Singleton was charged with two felony counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, and one count each of possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance. He was held on an $80,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail.
