Police Find Burglar After Responding To Medical Alarm

A 57 year-old man is facing felony break-in charges after Smithfield Police responded to a medical alert call Sept. 4th at a home on Ward Street.

Officers were dispatched to the address around 1:00am after being notified a medic alert button had been activated. Police arrived and found Frank Aaron Blackshell inside the home.

The occupant of the home was not at home and police don’t know if Blackshell may have mistakenly activated the alarm.  Blackshell, who is homeless, had previously done yard work for the victim but had not lived at the address.

Police said Blackshell had stolen popcorn and a watch.

He was charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny charges.  He was incarcerated in the Johnston County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
