Police Investigating Highway 70 Hit And Run

Smithfield Police are looking for a driver and vehicle involved in a hit and run crash.  The accident was reported at 7:30pm Wednesday on Highway 70 (W. Market Street) at Highway 210.

Police said a 2016 GMC pickup truck driven by a Four Oaks man had stopped for a red light on Highway 70 at the intersection.  The pickup was hit from behind by a white male driving a gold Mazda passenger car.

The victim called 911 to report the accident. The driver of the Mazda told the man not to call 911 then sped away and in the process ran a red light at the intersection nearly causing another accident.

Police said the gold Mazda should have front end damage.

  1. The law should be changed to if you do a hit and run your license will be revoked for life. Need to stop slapping people on the hands and get tough.
