Police Make Quick Arrest In Attempted Home Invasion

Smithfield Police made a quick arrest in an attempted home invasion on Monday in South Smithfield.

It happened on South 2nd Street.

Just before 6:00am, police said a 64 year-old woman was at home alone and heard her door bell ring repeatedly. The woman said her husband had left moments earlier to go to work and she thought it was him returning to their house.  She opened the door expecting to see her husband, but instead it was a man who tried to force his way into her home.

The victim was able to lock her door and call 911.

Police arrived on the scene and within 7 minutes had located the suspect on foot in the 400 block of Wellons Street and took him into custody.

Isaac James Martin, 22, of the 100 block of East Wellons Street, was charged with attempted first degree burglary and resisting and delaying police.  Police Chief Keith Powell said Martin was under the influence of an impairing substance at the time he was arrested.

Martin was jailed under a $50,000 bond. The victim was not physically harmed.
