Police Officer Sniffs Out Marijuana

Three people were charged Monday afternoon after a police officer on routine patrol detected a strong marijuana smell.

Around 3:30pm, a Smithfield Police officer was traveling down Buffalo Road near Holland Drive and detected a very strong odor of marijuana, a spokesperson said.  The officer turned around and drove slowly through the area until spotting the home the marijuana odor was coming from.

The officer walked up to the location in the 1000 block of Buffalo Road and allegedly caught one person smoking marijuana.

Police allegedly seized 23 grams of marijuana in a vacuum sealed bag and 0.7 grams of marijuana in a clear bag.

Gabriela Dhanar Garcia, 21, of Webb Mill Road, Four Oaks and Dianna Guadalupe Calero-Lopez, 19, of Faith Church Road, Four Oaks were both charged with possession of marijuana.   Garcia was given a $2,500 bond. Calero-Lopez was issued a citation and released.

Shelisa Elizabeth Treleaven, 29, of Hope Mills reportedly failed to cooperate with police and was charged with resisting a public officer.  Treleaven was jailed under a $51,000 bond.
