A Princeton couple has been arrested on felony child abuse charges after a 3 year-old boy received a significant burn.
In August, detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office launched a criminal investigation after they were notified by social workers of a possible child abuse case involving the young child.
During the investigation, authorities said they learned the child received a “significant burn to his lower back and buttocks area” while he was in the custody of his father and stepmother during their week of visitation with the child.
After the child received the burn he was returned to the custody of his mother. She discovered the injury and took her son to Wayne UNC Healthcare for treatment. The child’s mother knew nothing about the injury prior to him returning to her care and custody, according to detectives.
Daniel Clark Hess and his wife, Summer Lee Hess, both age 26, of Whitley Church Road, Princeton were arrested and charged with felony child abuse. They were given $10,000 secured bonds.
