Princeton Man Led Deputies On 110 MPH Chase, JCSO Says

A 40 year-old Princeton man was arrested on multiple charges after he reportedly led deputies on a high speed chase.  Saleem Hassan Carlos of Blackwater Court, was held on a $25,000 secured bond.

At 10:19am last Saturday, Feb. 27th, a Johnston County deputy was traveling in the 8000 block of Highway 39 North.  The officer spotted a green Range Rover traveling southbound that matched the description of a vehicle wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for questioning for a drive-by shooting.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle on Highway 39 but the driver accelerated to speeds of 110mph in a 55mph zone.  The chase turned onto Highway 42 towards Clayton and then onto Highway 70 Business towards Smithfield.  The driver turned into the parking lot at Nick’s Flippin Kids at 9257 Highway 70 Business East, Clayton, stopped the vehicle, exited the Range Rover and surrendered.

Carlos was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, speeding and reckless driving among other offenses.  The Range Rover was seized under the NC ‘Run and You’re Done’ law.  No injuries were reported.

We reached out to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday to see if Carlos was a suspect in the shooting. They did not respond to us prior to the publication of our story Wednesday.
