Relative Held Under $1 Million Following Shooting

A Johnston County man is facing numerous felony charges following a shooting incident at a home on Batten Pond Road near Selma.

Deputies responded to the home of David Ricky Godwin Jr. around 5:30pm Saturday.

Authorities said Godwin, 48, and his uncle, William Henry Godwin III, 65, of Highway 39 North, Selma were reportedly arguing over money when his uncle retrieved a handgun and began firing at a Ford F-150 truck his nephew was sitting in.

David Godwin was not struck by the gunfire but one bullet struck the door of the truck.

William Godwin was arrested and charged with numerous offenses including discharging a firearm into occupied property, communicating threats, assault by pointing a gun. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $1 million bond pending a first court appearance on Monday.
