Report: Drunk Driver Cited Following Crash

SELMA – A motorist was charged with driving while impaired and driving on a revoked license after Selma Police responded to a two car accident. The accident was reported at 11:37am Thursday on Anderson Street and Webb Street. 

Police said Jeremias Cruz, 33, of Syracuse, New York was traveling northbound on Webb Street in a 2005 Ford pickup and Melton Atkinson, 27, of Selma was traveling westbound on Anderson Street in a 2020 Chevy passenger car. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Police said there were no witnesses to the accident and they were unable to determine which driver had the right of way at the signalized intersection.

Cruz reportedly had an odor of alcohol on his breath, was unsteady on his feet, and had slurred speech.  He was arrested at the accident scene and later released from the Johnston County Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.

No injuries were reported.  Damages was estimated at $2,000 to both vehicles. Both had to be towed from the scene.
