Report: Man Who Broke Into Church Claimed He Went To Pray

FOUR OAKS – A man reportedly dressed in camouflage clothing was caught at a Four Oaks church around midnight Tuesday.

Johnston County deputies said they located 54 year-old John P. Wilkins of Wilkins-O’Neal Road, Four Oaks at the entrance door to Oliver’s Grove Baptist Church at 8715 US Highway 301 South.

Officers said they discovered minor damage to a door where forcible entry had allegedly been made.

Wilkins reportedly claimed he went to Oliver’s Grove Church to pray and to use the restroom.  The only problem was that the church was closed and the doors were locked.

Wilkins was charged with felony breaking and entering a place of worship. He was held on a $30,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail.
