SMITHFIELD – Two people were arrested Sunday night on methamphetamine possession charges during a traffic stop in the Brogden community east of Smithfield.
Around 7:30pm, a Johnston County deputy sheriff spotted a 1995 Ford F-150 truck traveling on Grabtown Road. The truck had a fictitious license plate and no insurance. The officer stopped the pickup and began issuing the driver, Charles Jordon Penny, 29, of Brogden School Road, Smithfield a citation for the violations.
During the traffic stop the deputy became suspicious about the occupants and received permission to search the vehicle. The officer reportedly found a small bag of suspected methamphetamine inside a partially-filled soft drink can. The officer found a flashlight that had another bag of suspected methamphetamine concealed in the battery compartment.
Penny and a passenger, Summer Nichole Tripp, 26, also of Brogden School Road, Smithfield were both charged with felony possession of methamphetamine. Penny received a $2,500 secured bond. Tripp received a $1,000 secured bond.
