Report: SAFE Team Deputies Locate Marijuana After Stopping Driver For Speeding

SELMA – SAFE team deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said they seized 12.5 ounces of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop for speeding. An officer was on patrol on Highway 70 East of Selma just after 6:00pm Tuesday and noticed a GMC SUV in his rear view mirror approaching quickly from behind.  Using radar, the driver was reportedly clocked speeding 75 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone.

The officer said he stopped the SUV and immediately detected an odor of marijuana.  The driver, Theodore Bernard Givens, 33, of Goldsboro, reportedly denied having any narcotics in the vehicle. During a search, the suspected marijuana was located.

Givens was charged with three felony and one misdemeanor drug violations and released on a $7,500 secured bond.  He was also cited for speeding 75 mph in a 60 mph zone and for driving on a revoked license. The SUV was impounded.
