SAFE Team Deputies Make Arrests

Johnston County Sheriff SAFE Team deputies made several arrests during traffic stops this week.

2 Arrested In Benson

On Monday, a SAFE Team officer stopped a car on Park Place in Benson for a traffic violation.  During the traffic stop the passenger jumped from the car and fled on foot.  The passenger, Joshua Sterling McClain, 24, of Apex was arrested a short distance away.  Deputies said they found 10 small bags of suspected cocaine in the passenger area of the car where he had been seated.  McClain was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a public officer.

Another occupant in the car, Hilda Marie Fuller, 22, of Cary allegedly had a napkin in her bra containing approximately 4 grams of cocaine.  Fuller was charged with possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McClain was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $75,000 bond. Fuller was incarcerated under a $20,000 bond.

Traffic Stop For Speeding Leads To Narcotics
Also Monday, a SAFE Team deputy stopped a car for speeding on Highway 242 South of Benson.  After asking the driver to exit the car, a bag containing 16 percocet pills allegedly fell out of the vehicle.  The driver, Jordan Antonio Thorpe, 21, of Oakwood Drive, Angier was also reportedly found to have 16 grams of cocaine in the vehicle.

Thorpe was jailed under a $120,000 bond charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Willow Spring Man Arrested
A Willow Spring man was allegedly caught with heroin and methamphetamines in his possession during a traffic stop Tuesday on Honeycutt Road off Highway 210.

James Matthew Hamrick 39, of Red Circle was stopped by a SAFE Team deputy and during a search of his vehicle the illegal drugs were reportedly found.  Hamrick was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was confined in the Johnston County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond.

Marijuana Found After K-9 Alerts On Car
Approximately 2.8 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found inside a Toyota Corolla stopped Tuesday afternoon on Polenta Road in the Cleveland community.

SAFE Team deputies stopped the car for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as 23 year-old Jacob Lee Cabrera-Chavez of Foxtree Court, Benson reportedly refused to allow officers to search his car. A sheriff’s K-9 alerted on the vehicle and during a search the illegal drugs were allegedly found.

Cabrera-Chavez was charged with felony possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.  He was taken before a magistrate and then confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $20,000 bond.   Deputies also impounded his car.
