School Bus Rear Ended

A Johnston County public school bus was rear ended Thursday morning. The accident occurred around 7:40am on Barnes Lake Road off NC Highway 39 North.

Bus 668, assigned to Thanksgiving Elementary School, had 14 students on board plus the driver. The bus had stopped in the 700 block of Barnes Lake Road to pick up a student when it was rear ended by a SUV.

Two people in the SUV were transported to WakeMed with unknown injuries.

Everyone on the bus was evaluated by Johnston County EMS personnel but no one was transported to the hospital. Some parents went to the scene to pick up their children.

The Highway Patrol said the red caution lights on the bus were activated at the time it was hit from behind.

Charges are pending against the driver of the SUV.

  1. Would bet a phone was invlved. It might be a smart phone but it is not a smart person with their face stuck in it driving down the road.

  2. Why has the policy changed on the STOP sign out – start back putting out the sign before stopped – forethought appears to be a thing of the past.
