Second Annual Celebrating Juneteenth In JoCo

SMITHFIELD – The second annual Celebrating Juneteenth in JoCo will take place on Saturday, June 18 in Smithfield.

Events begin with a parade at 10:30am. Participants will march from the Alumni Center at 1110 Massey Street to Smith Collins Park at 909 E. Lee Street. The parade lineup begins at 10:00am.

Activities at Smith Collins Park are scheduled from 12:00 Noon until. It includes food, music, vendors, spoken word singing, games, live entertainment, fun, fellowship, and networking. Admission is free.

Parade entries and vendors for the event are now being accepted. Vendor spaces are $25 each (no food vendors, no food trucks). A trophy will be presented to the HBCU with the most fraternity/sorority in attendance.

  1. Lost in these Juneteenth celebrations is forgetting the hundreds of thousands of Union soldiers, black and white, who fought and died for the destruction of chattel slavery in this nation. It’s a shame that their memories are ignored or forgotten.
