Serious Injuries Reported In Accident

SELMA – A collision involving two vehicles Saturday night sent three people to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash was reported just before 9:30pm on Highway 42 East at Thanksgiving Fire Department Road. The intersection has been the scene of numerous accidents in recent months.

A minivan and passenger car collided at the intersection. The impact caused the minivan to overturn, pinning the driver inside. The passenger car was sent off the roadway, trapping two people in the vehicle.

Johnston County EMS transported the three injured people to Wake Med in Raleigh. The Thanksgiving Fire Department and Archer Lodge Fire Department extricated the patients and provided traffic control.

The intersection was closed for more than an hour before reopening.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

  1. No 4-way stop is needed!!! You can see clearly in both directions at that intersection. Idiots just need to stop being impatient and wait for traffic to clear before turning onto 42. Simple!!!

    • These accidents are not being caused by poor visibility or anything else regarding this intersection. It is simply driver error.

    • When LEO’s take crash reports it is reported to DMV. DMV Has been inundated with motor vehicle collisions at this intersection. When this happens, the state makes changes to roadways, albeit speed changes, signage, stoplights etc. regardless of whether this is driver error or not- which majority of all collisions are, it doesn’t negate the fact that changes need to be made And there have been collisions at this intersection involving limited visibility; also has proven to be an issue for those not familiar with the roadway as the stop sign sneaks up on them; similar to applewhite/231.
Adding a stop sign will do nothing to interfere with your quality of life, but it may start saving some lives.

  2. This spot needs Flashing lights on each side of Thanksgiving Rd. Almost always the drivers crossing over 42.

    • That intersection does not needed anything except for people to stop being so impatient when getting on or crossing over 42!!! The stop signs are clearly visible on both sides. It’s not the intersection that’s the problem. The wrecks there are caused completely by driver incompetence.
