A Johnston County man on the NC Sex Offender Registry wanted for violating conditions of his release in 2018 is behind bars.
In November 2018, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office attempted to verify William Alan Core was still living at an address on Hinnant Road near Selma. Deputies said they determined he had moved. Officers were able to contact Core on his cell phone. He allegedly told officers he was living in Georgia but declined to disclose his new address.
A warrant was issued for Core charging him with failing to register his new address as a sex offender. On May 17th, he was taken into custody in Smithfield and served with the felony warrant.
Core was also served with three misdemeanor warrants for failing to appear in court on 2018 charges of indecent exposure, communicating threats and resisting a public officer.
A magistrate set his bond at $70,000.
Core was on the Sex Offender Registry for a conviction in Johnston County of felonious indecent exposure in February 2017. That’s when Core had sexual intercourse with a 49 year-old woman in the front yard of a home on Holland Drive in Smithfield. Smithfield Police said the incident was witnessed by a 20 year-old neighbor and her 4 year-old daughter. Core received one year probation but as a condition of his sentencing was ordered to be placed on the NC Sex Offender Registry for 10 years.
