Sexual Assault Suspect Facing Added Charge

BENSON – A former Clayton-area grocery store manager jailed since October 2021 on more than 50 felony charges is face one more charge.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, an adult female came forward last year claiming she had been sexually assaulted by James Byron Bond, 57, of Beasley Road, Benson. During the investigation, detectives said they located three additional female victims, all juveniles.

Bond was arrested last year on more than 50 sexual offenses, including taking indecent liberties with a child and sexual exploitation of a minor.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Bond was charged November 14, 2022 with one count of statutory rape of a child. The added charge stems from the alleged rape of a female juvenile in the summer of 2020.

After the latest charge was added, bail was increased from $5 million to $5.25 million. James Byron Bond has been in custody at the Johnston County Jail since his initial arrest in 2021.
