Sexual Assault Suspect Released After Bail Lowered To $5,000

A suspect in the alleged sexual assault of four children ranging in age from 12 to 17 was released from the Johnston County Jail after his bond was lowered from $150,000 to $5,000.

George Anthony Grissom, 54, of N. Walton Avenue, Benson was originally arrested in April 2018 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on allegations he provided four juveniles with cigarettes, alcohol and marijuana then inappropriately touched the female victims.  He was initially released on a $2,000 bond.

A Johnston County Grand Jury recently indicted Grissom on 7 charges stemming from the April incident including sexual battery, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and taking indecent liberties with a child.  The offenses involved victims ages 12, 13, 16, and 17.

Grissom was arrested and ordered jailed by a magistrate under a $150,000 bond at 12:49pm Monday.

Grissom had his first appearance before a judge Monday afternoon. The judge lowered the bail from $150,000 to $5,000. Grissom walked free from the county jail at 5:24pm.
