Shooting Suspect Charged With 5 Counts Of Attempted First Degree Murder

A Johnston County man is being held under a $1 million bond after he reportedly fired a rifle into a car striking one person. Johnston County deputies said the shooting happened around 4:30pm Wednesday in the 700 block of Little Road outside of Kenly.

That’s when Jerry Craig Wilkerson, 50, of 762 Little Road, reportedly saw a vehicle parked on the edge of his father’s property.  Wilkerson, who was standing nearly 100 yards away, allegedly began firing a rifle into the car to get the vehicle to leave.  He fired multiple rounds into the car occupied by five people.   One round struck 71 year-old Jimmy Glenn King of Princeton in the shoulder.  King was rushed to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.  One other person in the car was injured by flying glass when a round shattered a window.

Wilkerson surrendered to deputies when they arrived.  He was charged with five counts of attempted first degree murder and one count of discharging a weapon into occupied property.  Investigators believe the suspect knew some of the individuals in the car but never approached the vehicle or asked them to leave before firing repeatedly into the vehicle.
