Shooting Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder

A weekend shooting left a 26 year-old woman hospitalized in serious condition. At 6:52am Sunday, Johnston County deputies responded to a 911 call on Carrington Drive off Cornwallis Road west of Clayton.

Deputies and EMS arrived and found a 26 year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her neck. She was rushed to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Deputies said a suspect in the case later surrendered to authorities and allegedly confessed to the shooting.

Luis Angel Valentin, 39, of Carrington Drive, was charged with attempted first degree murder. He was booked in at the Johnston County Jail Sunday afternoon and held on a $400,000 secured bond.

Investigators said the victim and suspect were acquaintances. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

    • I think he would have been charged with that as well if he was. There was no mention that he was a felon.
