Shoplifter Caught With Backpack Filled With Stolen Meats, Police Say

A Rocky Mount man has been arrested for stealing $155 worth of meats from the Clayton Walmart.

Clayton Police officers were called by the Walmart Loss Prevention team that a man had filled a backpack with packs of bacon, steaks, and angus patties and then left the store without paying.

The man was with another woman. Store employees shared a description of both suspects. When officers arrived they were able to locate both suspects in two different areas of the parking lot.

34-year-old Asmar Ali Sumad Laqut Thomas of Rocky Mount was charged with larceny and taken to the Johnston County jail. He had several warrants out of Nash County including larceny. He also had a warrant out of Pennsylvania for a probation violation.  Thomas had also been reported missing in Rocky Mount. The woman with Thomas was not arrested but was trespassed by Walmart.
