SMITHFIELD – Police arrested a shoplifting suspect minutes after she allegedly stole merchandise from two businesses. Around 5:00pm Tuesday, Feb. 1st, Smithfield Police responded to PacSun and Hanes Outlet on Outlet Center Drive after employees reported a woman entered the businesses, grabbed several items, and left without paying.
An officer located Tywanda Renee Walker, age 31, of Carlton Avenue, Raleigh nearby. Police said they located the stolen items, valued at $711.27, in her vehicle. The items were returned to the businesses. Police said they also found 3.8 grams of suspected marijuana in Walker’s car.
Police Chief Keith Powell said arresting officers determined Walker was wanted on outstanding larceny warrants in Wake County and was on probation at the time of the incident.
Walker was charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny, shoplifting by concealment, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. She was transported to the Johnston County Jail and given a $10,000 secured bond.
