Shopper Arrested After Switching Price Tags On $29 Cooler

Clayton Police were called to the Walmart on Highway 70 after the store’s Loss Prevention Officer spotted a suspect allegedly switching price tags on merchandise.

Store officials say the man was in one of the aisles and was seen switching the price tag of cooler from one to the other. At checkout, the man paid $5.81 for the cooler but it should have rung up at $29.44.

Store officials asked to speak with the man and showed the man evidence that the barcodes on the receipt did not match those on the product.

Robert Whittington, 55, of Wake County was arrested June 7th and charged with larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses. He was jailed on a $5,000 secured bond.
