BENSON – A 21 year-old man found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle on Interstate 40 in Johnston County was arrested.
On March 9 around 4:58am, a deputy sheriff located a 2013 Toyota Highlander parked on the eastbound shoulder of I-40 facing westbound, near the NC 96 / Meadow exit.
The deputy said the driver, Bryan Hernandez Bonilla of Raleigh, was asleep behind the wheel. The Toyota has been reported stolen in Raleigh.
Bonilla was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting a public officer. He was also served with a failure to appear warrant on a 2023 simple assault charge.
Bonilla was held without bond pending his first court appearance.

He should be held without bail as he would only run again. And also, if he was facing the wrong way on the ramp, when he woke up, he could have been on the wrong side of the highway and killed someone. Put this trash away.
At least sleep on an exit ramp. Why are criminals so dumb?
