Smithfield Police reportedly seized 115 grams of marijuana during a traffic stop. Around 2:00pm Sunday, police were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot near the Smithfield Recreation & Aquatics Center on Booker Dairy Road. The vehicle had left before police arrived but an officer spotted the car on Garner Drive a few minutes later and pulled it over.
After approaching the car, the officer said he detected a strong odor of marijuana. During a search, 115 grams of suspected marijuana was found in the back seat.
The driver, 24 year-old Derrell Devontia Anderson, of Old Farm Road, Smithfield was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia. Bail was set at $7,500.
Police also impounded the 2006 Chrysler that Anderson was driving.
