A 34 year-old Smithfield man was arrested during a traffic stop by a SAFE Team deputy early Sunday. The officer stopped a Chevy SUV on Cleveland Crossing Drive near the I-40 / NC 42 intersection. During the traffic stop, 3 bags containing a total of 3 grams of a white substance was reportedly found. The substance was allegedly identified as cocaine. A small amount of marijuana was also seized along with digital scales.
Christopher Steven Thomas of Holland Drive, Smithfield was arrested on four drug violations. They include maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies impounded the vehicle. Thomas was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond.
