Smithfield Man Held In Wilson’s Mills Car Break-Ins

WILSON’S MILLS – Wilson’s Mills Police and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office have filed charges against a Smithfield man following several car break-ins reported around 1:30am Friday, November 12th. A homeowner reported chased four suspects in the Ives Landing neighborhood off Southerland Road who were trying to break into cars.

Police and deputies responded and captured two of the four suspects. Daquan Antonio Hankins, 24, of Smithfield and a 16 year-old juvenile were charged by Wilson’s Mills Police with the Ives Landing break-ins.

Deputies also linked Hankins to car break-ins reported on Byrd Road and Southerland Road just outside the Wilson’s Mills city limits. In those break-ins, a laptop computer, credit cards, cash, and a purse were stolen.

Police Chief A.Z. Williams hopes the arrests end a rash of vehicle break-ins in the area in recent months. The search continues for the remaining two suspects who ran from officers.

Police ask residents in the area to review their home security cameras for any footage between midnight and 3:00am Friday, Nov. 12th for any activity that may assist this investigation.
