A 23 year-old Smithfield man has been linked to five car break-ins after he allegedly pawned some of the stolen items.
On the morning of April 9th, three victims living on Lassiter Road and Packing Plant Road, between Smithfield and Four Oaks, discovered a total of five vehicles parked in their driveways had been broken into. One victim reported a $3,000 Holton French horn owned by Smithfield-Selma High School had been stolen from their car. The instrument was later reportedly sold to a Raleigh pawn shop by the suspect.
Keenan Elbert Surles 23, of Country Lane, Smithfield was arrested May 15th on 11 criminal warrants including 5 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, 5 counts of larceny, and one count of financial card theft. Surles was placed in the Johnston County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
