A suspected gang member from Smithfield has been arrested for a 2017 armed robbery in Dekalb County, Georgia.
Selma Police said an officer was on routine patrol around 10:45pm Friday and spotted a blue Jeep traveling on Ricks Road with an expired license plate. Before pulling over the vehicle, the officer ran a check on the license plate and determined the registered owner had a suspended license.
Police stopped the Jeep on US 301 at Ricks Road and identified the driver as 26 year-old James Brandon Everett of Brantley Circle, Smithfield. Police said it appeared Everett was trying to hid something in the vehicle.
After being asked to exit the vehicle and during a search of the interior a small amount of suspected cocaine was located.
During a routine background check it was determined Everett was wanted by police in Doraville, Georgia on a November 2017 warrant for armed robbery.
Everett was charged with possession of cocaine by Selma Police. He was also served with a fugitive warrant for armed robbery and confined in the Johnston County Jail without bond pending extradition to Georgia.
