Two people were arrested Saturday after they allegedly shoplifted a $3,000 item from a Smithfield business.
Around 8:00pm, Smithfield Police responded to the Bose store on Outlet Center Drive. Employees told officers a man entered the business and ran out the door with a theatre sound system and fled in a car.
Eyewitnesses were able to give police a description of the getaway car which was spotted by officers a short time later on Mallard Road near I-95.
The male occupant fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Police also said they found cocaine.
Police identified the two suspects as Amanda Jane New, 27, of Dongola Street, Clayton and Phillip Matthew Lownes, 35, of the 4600 block of Buffalo Road, Selma.
New was charged with felony aiding and abetting larceny and felony possession of cocaine.
Lownes was charged with felony larceny and resisting a public officer.
Police determined Lownes was wanted at the time of his arrest in three jurisdictions. Orange County, Florida officers wanted Lownes on robbery charges. New Hanover, NC authorities had warrants for his arrest charging him with burglary and larceny. Transylvania County, NC cops wanted Lownes for felony larceny by an employee and failure to appear.
