In an effort to keep utility customers aware of their usage and monthly billing, the Town of Smithfield will be launching online “Smart Portals” so customers can view their own electric consumption.
Public Utilities Director Ted Credle told members of the Smithfield Town Council the service will launch on Tuesday, July 6th and will be free to all customers. Credle said the portals are available through the same website where customers now pay their utility bills online. With the new feature, customers will have to log-in and create an account.
The portals will show daily usage, monthly usage, and an estimate of their account in real time. Town customer service representatives will be able to assist customers with questions about the smart portals.
Initially, the smart portals will only be available for electric customers. Water customers and water data will be added at a later date.
