Routine traffic stops for speeding violations resulted in the arrests of two suspects on impaired driving charges.
At 8:19pm Saturday, a Johnston County SAFE Team deputy was on patrol on Highway 50 South near the Meadow community. Using his radar, the officer clocked the vehicle speeding 92mph in a 55mph zone. During a traffic stop, 51 year-old Christopher Martin Denning of Harnett-Dunn Highway, Dunn was arrested for driving while impaired. Denning later registered 0.11 on the Breathalyzer, above the legal limit of 0.08.
Denning was charged with DWI, reckless driving to endanger, having an open container, speeding, and driving on a revoked license. Bond was set at $50,000.
At 12:10am Sunday, another SAFE Team deputy was on patrol on Highway 42 near Highway 50 in the Cleveland area when he spotted a car traveling at 82mph in a 45mph zone. During a traffic stop, 47 year-old Angel Luis Rios of Kestrel Heights Court, Durham was arrested. Rios was charged with DWI, speeding, and reckless driving to endanger. Authorities said Rios registered 0.15 on the Breathalyzer. His bail was set at $10,000.
