A second arrest has been made in connection with the larceny of $1,703 in property taken from a Four Oaks area home while the victim was in the hospital.
Last week, we reported about the incident and the arrest of 57 year-old Randolph “Randy” Sommers Mason Jr. of Thompson Road, Four Oaks.
On Friday, authorities announced the arrest of the victim’s own stepdaughter, 30 year-old Heather Annette Whaley of the 4500 block of US 701 South, Four Oaks.
Between Jan. 18th and Jan. 29th the suspects are accused of going to the victim’s home on Spring Lake Road taking numerous items including a utility trailer, air compressor, and tools.
Deputies believe the suspects made more than one trip to the address, knowing the victim was in the hospital. During one of the trips, one of the suspects dropped a cell phone. Deputies searched the phone and reportedly found photos of the stolen items the suspects had taken and placed for sale on a social media site.
Both Mason and Whaley are charged by sheriff’s detectives with felony larceny and felony conspiracy.
