Smithfield Police arrested a suspect who allegedly broke into a home and stole money. Police said the stolen money was later found in the suspect’s shoe.
Around 3:00am Sunday, a resident on Fayetteville Street was returning home. As they approached their residence they saw a man running out their back door. The victim called police who set up a perimeter around the area. Within minutes the suspect had been located.
Alphonso Antonio Alford, 39, of Barefoot Road, Newton Grove was arrested nearby on Massey Street. He was charged with second-degree burglary and larceny. Police said the victim reported $120 in cash had been stolen during the break-in. While being searched, police said they found the stolen money in Alford’s shoe.
Police said the victim and suspect were acquaintances, however the victim did not recognize Alford as he fled from the home.
Alford was incarcerated in the Johnston County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
