Student Arrested For Drug Possession

A 17 year-old student is facing criminal charges after allegedly being caught with marijuana on school grounds.

Responding to a report of an odor of marijuana coming from a student bathroom, a school resource officer at West Johnston High School conducted an investigation on Tuesday that led to the arrest of Donald Keith Adkins of Smithfield.

Adkins was charged by the resource officer with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Johnston County Jail and released by a magistrate on a $1,000 bond.

In addition to the two criminal charges, Adkins could potentially face suspension under Johnston County Schools Code of Conduct policy.
