Surveillance Video Helps Clayton Police Solve Break-In

A 43-year-old homeless man stole a Caterpillar generator from a storage warehouse on Main Street in Clayton behind an auto body shop.

Clayton Police said they arrested Mark G. Davis and charged him with breaking and entering and larceny.

Owners of the warehouse were able to check surveillance video at the location and helped identify the man. Davis was then interviewed by officers and allegedly agreed to return the stolen $500 generator, however, he later stated he had already sold it.

Davis was arrested and taken to the Johnston County Jail where he is being held on a $40,000 secured bond. He was also processed for an outstanding shoplifting charge.
